ABOUT THE PROJECT
The City of Albany's Street Tree Management Plan aims to be a programmatic resource to guide street tree related decision-making to improve the tree canopy in the City right-of-way.

Phase 1: Street Tree Inventory
ArborPro, Inc. conducted an inventory of all trees in the City right-of-way excluding Albany Hill, Albany Waterfront, land owned and managed by the University of California (University Village) and City parks. Results of Inventory include:

Community Viewer of all existing street trees and vacant planting sites.

Helps City better maintain, identify and prioritize opportunities to expand the City’s tree canopy.

Phase 2: Street Tree Management Plan
Phase 2 includes the hiring of a consultant and the creation of the plan itself. Staff presented to City Council a draft Request for Proposals (RFP), which was authorized by Council for release. Council approved of Resolution No. 2023-61, selecting HortScience | Bartlett Consulting to carry out second phase of the Plan. City Staff is currently working with the consulting team to begin the planning process.

City Council passed Resolution No. 2021-102 to amend Master Fee Schedule to remove costs for new street tree planting and associated concrete removal to be funded through Measure DD

City Council passed Resolution No. 2022-113, executing contract with ArborPro, Inc. to conduct street tree inventory

Staff presented RFP for consulting services for Street Tree Management Plan. Authorized by Council.

Street Tree Inventory Completed

Council approves Resolution No. 2023-61, authorizing execution of contract with HortScience

Council received summary of intended next steps and provided feedback on policy guidance on the development of the Plan.
2024
January
Staff and consultants provided plan updates, including community outreach efforts and canopy coverage research, to the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Commission.
